It doesn't have to be terrible. It doesn't have to take all of your time. And it can be just as holy as the call God actually put on your heart (and even fun).

Jesus commanded us as His disciples to share the Good News and lead people to Him.

And if what He's called you to do brings people to Him...

...then Catholic marketing is just evangelization.

I'm going to be totally honest with you:

The stuff I'm teaching you is not flashy quick tips. This isn't a tutorial on how to reach a million views, 10x your email subscribers, or skyrocket to 7 figures overnight.

But I can almost guarantee you won't do any of those things without these foundational pieces first.

Plus they contain a lot of sleazy things, some of which are even directly against Catholic teaching and ethics.

Whether you're a small business owner or a ministry leader, I want to teach you how to market so you can make more money and be sustainable of course...

...but more importantly, I want to teach you how to market so you can make an impact. So you can share the Good News in the unique way the Lord has called you with every single person He intends for you to reach.

So I teach marketing a little differently. Each module of this course starts with a short Bible study reflection and ends with questions to bring to Adoration to reflect on your work with the Lord.

I do that so that marketing loses its formalness and becomes so much more relatable. I know you don't have a business degree and that's okay. I can still teach you the marketing essentials, and do so in a way that keeps ministry at the center.

  • Being Social on Social
    Creating community online has never been easier thanks to social media. Churches can utilize social media to foster their in-person communities digitally...but do you know how? In this workshop, we'll go over the basics of social media and how to create a dynamic social media presence for your parish that not only fosters your congregation's connection, but also works to expand your reach as an evangelization tool in your local area.
  • Branding Basics
    Does reading the church bulletin seem like a font selection guide? Can parishioners identify when a mailing is from you? Branding covers so much more than your visual identity - it also aids how people feel when they think about your church. In this workshop, we'll dive into how to select fonts and colors that represent your church, creating a brand guide (and how to have it implemented, even among volunteers), and honing in on your church's unique personality.
  • Making an Entrance: Identifying Entrypoints
    We often wish we could reach our less active parishioners - but when we do, we fail to capitalize on the moment! Key moments for conversion like CAPE (Christmas, Ash Wednesday, Palm Sunday, Easter) and sacraments are often overlooked from a communications standpoint, but there are so many things you can do to capitalize on these pivotal moments. In this workshop, we'll work to identify the key entrypoints for your parish and brainstorm communications methods to bring them back to church.
  • Beyond Envelopes: Welcoming New Parishioners
    What's the first thing new parishioners get when they register at your parish? A nice big stack of envelopes? Because nothing says welcome like give us money! In this workshop, we'll go over some welcome strategies you can put in place to get parishioners from passive registrants to active participants. Ideas discussed include recruitment strategies, registration letters and swag, and digital follow-up strategies.

MY NAME IS EMILY

My first memory of life was reading my children's Bible from cover to cover at age 5 and proudly proclaiming to my mom that I'd read the whole Bible in a day.

Since then, I've loved everything about being Catholic: I started volunteering for my parish at age 8, working there when I was 14, and eventually pursued a master's degree in theology.

 

After 8+ years in church work, I changed careers to marketing. And I soon realized how terrible the Church was at it because "we just don't know how to."

The crazy part? It only took about 5 minutes of searching to see that Jesus actually used all of these marketing strategies in His public ministry.

Target audience? Right there in John 3. Differentiator? Look no further than John 10. Customer journey? See Luke 18. Value ladder, pain points, rule of seven, awareness levels? They literally jumped out at me from the pages of my Bible.​​​

(Me in college spending my Saturday working on a 32-page thesis on Luke's Last Supper account. Yes, those are nine Biblical commentaries balanced on top of each other to keep them open. Yes, I loved every minute of it. No, shockingly I was not invited to many parties.)

But seriously: the best marketer ever is our Lord and Savior — just think of the practical impact of His ministry on the world 2,000+ years later — and we have His example laid out for us step-by-step in the Gospels. The best marketing plan ever, right there for us to follow.

Why? Because He WANTS you to grow that call on your heart. If He gave you the gifts and talents to glorify Him, He not only desires you to share it — He makes it a sacred responsibility.

Some people find God in nature, art, music — I find Him in marketing.
